Annual Olympism in Action
Sport for Peace and Development Professional Training
Athens & ancient Olympia, Greece June 28-July 8, 2014
Under the patronage of Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, Member of the European Commission, the International Olympic Academy, Georgetown University, the International Olympic Truce Center and the O4H Alliance, are pleased to announce the 2014 O4H Praxis Summer Program.
Building on the great success of the first O4H Praxis Summer Program that took place in ancient Olympia last summer, we are proud to hold the 2014 Olympia4Humanity Summer Program in ancient Olympia, Greece from June 28-July 8, 2014. The 2014 O4H Summer Praxis Program is a professional development training opportunity implemented by Olympism4Humanity Alliance, a global consortium of prominent world leading Conflict Resolution, Global Health, International Development, Global Citizenship, Disability and Human-centered Olympism Legacy experts and institutions.
Given the increased international interest from a number of sport, humanitarian, educational and civil society institutions to promote the use of sport, arts, cultural and educational programs as a vehicle to address local and global challenges, the “Olympism in Action” and “sport for peace and development” (SFPD) practitioner is expected to possess skills and competencies that traditional sport academic programs do not provide.
To address this largely unmet need, the Olympism4Humanity (O4H) Praxis Summer Program aims to provide interdisciplinary and applied professional development opportunities to advance evidence-based policy and programming. The O4H Praxis Summer Program is ideally suited to the needs of SFPD practitioners, students, athletes, policy makers, faculty, researchers, program officers and educators.
The 2014 O4H Praxis Summer Program (June 28th-July 8th, 2014), will provide extensive training on applied skills and competencies related to: (a) applied Olympic Education and Olympism in Action foundations, (b) evidence-based program design and delivery, (c) Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), (d) non-profit and special event management, (e) fundraising strategies and grant proposal writing, (f) curriculum development for formal and non-formal educational systems (e.g. community and after school programs, primary secondary and tertiary education), (h) Olympic and Paralympic Games- & Mega Events Legacies.
After a very successful first year in 2013, we are returning to implement our annual professional development program in ancient Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. For information about the first O4H Praxis Summer Program that was held in ancient Olympia in summer 2013 please click here. The 2014 O4H Praxis Summer Program will accept applications from highly motivated and committed individuals that are interested in this emerging field.
Why is this program unique?
This program is particularly unique for many reasons. It is the first professional training opportunity solely focusing on Olympic value dissemination as a tool for social change, and it aims to revive these values at the birthplace of the Olympic Spirit: Olympia. There, Olympism, peacebuilding, democracy, philosophy, arts, science, and civic engagement were originally embraced as vital and essential elements of excellence, and as the components of a holistic educational philosophy of a balanced mind, body and spirit. Participants take part in a life-changing learning experience by gaining an intense cause-oriented, project-based training at the foundation of the Olympic Spirit. Olympism4Humanity Praxis Summer program participants complete a strategic action plan, which is supported throughout the year with the mentorship and support of O4H consortium of prominent experts from this emerging field.
What are the topics covered?
